The Idyllic Spa

Though mentioned as early as the year 770.A.D., Bad Königshofen’s development as a spa began many centuries later, just about a
hundred years ago.

In 1896 a spring of spa water was discovered while a search for new drinking water was underway. Thus began Bad Königshofen’s history as a spa: This Franconian spa is situated in the country far from mass-tourism and densely populated areas with their noise and pollution. Bad Königshofen is a little town, rich in tradition, with many historic buildings and works of art, as well as having modern spa and leisure facilities - all of this in an unspoilt environment - an ideal place for health and holiday.
In 1900, a spa water centre was opened on the very spot where today’s modern spa - water pavillion is situated. From this time obvious and positive, even if modest progress was made in Bad Königshofen’s development as a spa, which ended abruptly when World War I broke out. With the founding of a Spa Trust in 1931, the resort once again began to thrive. However, after World War II the spa of Königshofen had to make a new start. Since 1946 a continual development has taken place culminating in 1958, when the spring water was being officially recognized as having healing properties, and in 1974, when Bad Königshofen was awarded the title „Bad “ (i.e. spa), which it has retained ever since.
